My mother has a 2003 Yaris/Echo and my father has a 2013. I have to say, they are lovely little driving appliances. They feel a bit out of their element on the freeway, but they do manage it just fine. And around town and in parking lots they're an absolute dream. The turning radius is so tight you'd almost think you're driving a forklift. The '03 automatic is funny on the freeway though... I can't help but think that Toyota chose to omit the tachometer from the instrument cluster because the thing sounds like it's over 3000 RPM the whole time.

Goes like the clappers, unhinged tuneability, and yet all Top Gear ever says about the superior Japanese cars is sh*t like this. Who cares about plastic when the vehicle is superior to anything it might face for almost 30- years INTO the future? That's just nuts :S These have been collectible forever, and now even just individual OEM parts off them cost more than what Nissan sold them for. Presently that Ferrari is a forgotten piece of junk that everyone goes -.- while the GTR still has everyone literally gushing 🌈 outta their mouths like in that meme. Dgmw he's giving it high praise, but, not high enough, and I suspect Jeremy knows it, he could have collected 30 of these in 2008 and stored them on his farm, and sold them now for 5-10 times more than he bought them for and kept his farm alive for generations with the proceeds put in a trust lol

The good old Polo 6N. Nothing can beat it. I had the 9N as my first car. Everything rusted around the engine. But damn could it drive.

we had these in canada for a few brief years as the hatchback, we called it the echo. ive owned a lot of cars in my life but that echo (yaris) was by far the best car ive owned

in 2024 Starlet are a Gem now, and very sought after for it's extreme reliability and cheap maintenance and amazing fuel economy same as the older Yaris.. very affordable car to own. Toyota has become soo much trashy now trying to capitalize off Luxury car nonsense.. leave that crap to BMW and focus on what made you very successful Toyota.

In NA, the Yaris name didn't come around till 2007, and they all came standard with the 1.5L engine making 109hp. The 'Yaris' in this video was called the Echo in NA and had the same engine. Furthermore, both models came in a hatchback (as seen in the video) and a sedan with the hatchback coming in a 2/3 door model or a 4/5 door model

I brutalised a Yaris by redlining it frequently, jumping it over crests, handbrake turning it, launching it, and just generally driving the living shit out of it all the time. Service never missed at Toyota. Water pump went at 100k miles, that was the first and only mechanical failure it had. Sold 10 years ago with about 120k on it, the valve cover gasket was starting to leak a little. Car still knocking around with the current owner, who knows what the mileage is now. I have a lot of experience with Toyotas. If you give them regular oil any kind of mechanical failure will be a very rare surprise, and likely won't cost you too much. They don't get broken into. They don't get pulled over. They don't burn oil. They are always dynamically better than reviews would have you believe. The engines are exceptional pieces of engineering. The interiors are built with common sense. Very comforting cars to own.
